yeah some of the better ones cost quite a bit of money (!) at the moment,
i've got hold of POLESTAR MAGNETiX "XL1+" double cd set and it's not bad
containing one cd with mostly drum loops (60-159bpm) and another with
sample sets of the R8, 606, 727, 808, 909, CR78, and not too comprehensive
sounds from stuff like the 303, SH101, MC202, MOOG, and VOCODER amongst
other shit..

the 909 and 808 kicks where what i was mainly after, cept that "normal"
sb speakers are unable to reproduce the deep frequencies! and with alot
of the other samples being pretty cheesy (italo pianos, movie quotes etc)
i guess its alot of money to shell out when there are already some
decent sampled 505, 606, 727, 808, and 909 kits around on the net hidden
away in the umich mach sound sample directories (!)..

If you are looking for some clean samples, check out the ones that I put
on ftp.funet.fi /pub/sounds/wav/samples. There you will find about 8 Megs
of samples that I made from the Proteus 1/XR synth on the Turtle Beach
Multisound and the Roland SCC1 Sound Canvas. The names of the files are
Proteus1.zip, Proteus2.zip and Proteus3.zip and Roland1.zip.

Proteus1 is a collection of melodic and percussion samples at 22.05kHz/16bit.
Proteus2 is a collection of FX samples at 22.05kHz/16 bits
Proteus3.zip is percussion stuff (Drums, Cymbals etc) at 44.1kHz/16bit.
Roland1.zip is a collection of melodic samples from the Sound Canvas all
at 44.1kHz/16 bits.
More to follow ......

Other clean samples can be found at doc.ntu.ac.uk /pub/sounds/samples.
The collection there is small right now but they want to be the global
center for high quality samples. The guys in charge of that site all have
high end synths and will start putting lots of stuff there. I believe you
will find 909 samples there too.

  I'm just writing to say thanks to all you KFMF composers.  You pump out
all this great music for everyone to listen to, for _free_, so I think
the _least_ I can do is voice my appreciation.

  To Maelcum and Phoenix for your work on "Georgia."   Trance/hardtrance
has officially become my favorite type of music. :)  This song does
wonders for my day!

  To Basehead for all those songs you write that makes my little brother's
bumpin' car stereo sound that much more intense.  (since I introduced him
to some of my mods, he quit listening to that BOOM-BOOM-bump-BOOM stuff
that has no music and just bass beats.  You know what I'm talking about?
He didn't realize that you really _can_ have big bumps AND great music at
the same time! :)

  To Mental Floss for "My Place in My Space."  Great piece of work.  It's
got a place on my play list for a long time to come.

  To theHacker.  For all the hardcore stuff you write that keeps me
jumping on my bed at night long after every normal person has gone to
bed!  (no one has griped yet...)

  To Chuck Biscuits for his debut KFMF song "Subterranean."  Another top
hit on my personal mod charts.

  To Lurch <"who?"> ;)  for "Jungle Fever."  Man, I love percussion stuff.
Take a bow for such a great tune.

  To Lord Pegasus for "Solace II."  A great song with a great underlying
hardcore bassline.  And that ending!  Ever consider making an entire song
based on the ending to Solace II?

  To Nemesis for "Interphase."  Remix!  Remix!  Longer!  Harder!  wait,
this is starting to sound like something less appropriate...

  Once again to Maelcum, in particular, for writing _so many_ songs and
consistently keeping them _so_ good.  I really liked your gabber <gasp!>
and hardcore stuff from your "earlier" years. :) Feel free to get angry in
your music more often! (everyone should, in fact!)

  And to Phoenix, in particular, for "Synaesthesia."  ...beyond words...

  To Necros for "bugs in my head."  GREAT drum line.  You should remix
that song to make it longer and harder.  (whoa, there I go again. :)

  And Boomer for "unfaithful dream."  great song.  hey, great title too.

  And to the mystery person who wrote Reality Cubed.  It doesn't have any
info about who wrote it.  Is it indeed KFMF?  Well, it's AWESOME!

  And many, many others...

  It's getting late here (well, it IS late), and I've got class this
morning.  I'd love to go on and on, listing all the songs I love, but that
would take pages and pages.  I'm sorry if I left anyone out.  I'm tired,
and my memory is failing me, so I don't know how many more names and song
titles I can think of offhand, but be assured that, even if I didn't list
your name, I love almost every song that comes from KFMF.  I bought a GUS
solely for the purpose of mods, due to KFMF (well, KLF at that time).  And
I'm not regretting doing so one bit.
  So, I guess I'll finish this up here.  (Hmmm... now's where I need to
think up a cool, inspirational conclusion to this letter so that everyone
will feel all warm and fuzzy and stuff inside. :) If anyone finds
themselves without inspiration, or feeling like no one cares about mods
anymore, you can rest assured that there is always at least this one guy
out there who'd love to hear anything you want to release.  Your mods
make up a very large chunk of my music collection.  And when I'm
installing that new version of Win999 that ever-so-politely informs me
that I need 40 more megs of hard drive space free, it'll just have to
wait, cuz I'm not deleting my mods.  ;)

look for my (upcoming) releases from a new group "Underground Gabber
Source" (UGS) for harder stuff.

unfortunately necros is no longer with Kosmic, and unfortunately he
doesn't seem to be doing much music in the vein of bugs in my head now :(

although, check out the music from the Psychic Monks demo "eden" - it's
great!

Well, in my discography, I called Georgia "hip-pop".. that's the closest thing
to a label that I can slap on it.  Basically, Maelcum had a hip-hop rhythm and
some wandering synths, and I remixed it and added leads that totally messed
the song up. :)  I should get better at these collaborations..

well, i hope you like the next couple of releases for Kosmic from me,
they're not overly hardtrance, more acid influenced (bassy analogue
synths squelching away rather than 144bpm straight 909s and a juno :),
but nonetheless..

also, one of the songs - i'll probably release it in egg 3 -, called
Silver Acid Box, I'm setting things up so Maelcum can do a remix of it,
so the remix may be released before the original, i dont know :-)..
hehe.. but look out for that..

oh and on behalf of all of the kosmic members (i hope noone minds me
saying this!), thanks for the compliments you posted..

to my knowledge there are quite a few mirrors of the umich archive around,
including wuarchive (which is always very busy) so you might wanna try archie
or some of the mac newsgroups.. the site i used was something like:

ftp.iij.ad.jp

but i've probably got something in the wrong order (!) so hop on over to
yr nearest gus archive cause they've got quite a few sample sets as well uin
the "pat" format; which incidentally can be used with FT2.01 or else converted
with convert 1.4 etc..

what's better, if you're after a KILLER 909 kit, check out the one on
Hyperreal, in /machines/samples/roland/909 or something like that.. It's
MASSIVE, about 4meg, but it's all 44.1kHz, 16-bit, and there's some 100
odd samples, 50 odd snares, 20 bd's, and a load of hihats and toms.  It's
the definitive 909 kit, and you dont even have to pay for COMMERCIAL use
of the kit.
